Soups, Stews, and Chilis OH MY!

Sung to the tune of “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”

It’s the most sickliest time of the year, there are colds to be catching and flues to be hatching and strep oh my dear, it’s the most sickliest time of the year!!!!

No, I didn’t have a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of Jack for breakfast, I just have the crud. Not crippling where I can justify staying in bed all day, but annoying enough that I’m not being very productive. It’s like the worst of both worlds!

And that’s why all I want is hot stuff on my throat now!

Soups, stews, and chilis:a roundup of classic and new-to-you delicious recipes to warm you up this winter. Brothy or hearty, there's one here you'll love.

God that was way too many exclamation points. I blame the sinus congestion loopiness.

But, although I really want a truckload of brothy soups, I’m including heartier fare in your roundup this month, because I don’t know about you but I can’t swing a soup and salad dinner with my husband. I don’t know where he puts it, but he likes a hearty dinner and brothy soup doesn’t cut it.

As a matter of fact, one time we went to my parents’ house for dinner and mom served soup and salad and after he ate it he said: “This is delicious I can’t wait for the main course!”.

Of which there was none.

So whatever you need this cold and blustery winter, it’s here. Brothy, hearty, classics, new –to-yous, there’s quite a selection to enjoy.

And of course, we’re kicking it off with the base for any fantastic soup, fantastic chicken stock:

Liquid Gold Chicken Stock

Chicken Stock Broth Recipe - Since it’s the middle of winter and we’re all making soup, stew and other delicious braisey/roasty/simmery things I challenge you to make your own chicken broth even if you only do it once. It seriously will take you back. Back to when chicken broth tasted like…wait for it…chicken.

Chicken and Shrimp Pho

Chicken and Shrimp Phở ~ Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Soup - Phở, a Vietnamese noodle soup with about 100 different versions, is just as much, if not more about the broth as it is the stuff in the soup and the stuff you put on the soup. If you love a lot of stuff, this is the soup for you, especially as it can be prepared in less than 15 minutes!

Chili Blanco

White Chili with Chicken - You might not think of mushrooms right away (or ever) when you think of chili, but in this White Bean Chili with Chicken, mushrooms are a perfect addition.

Egg Drop Soup; incredibly fast and easy. Store bought chicken broth is upgraded with ginger and garlic to make this easy and healthy Asian classic.

French Turkey Soup with Beans and Greens

Fresh and light, French Turkey Soup with Beans and Greens is delicately flavored with herbes de Provence. It’s perfect to counteract those holiday indulgences.

Italian Wedding Soup

Italian Wedding Soup is a classic soup featuring pasta, fresh greens and tiny meatballs. It’s perfect for a chilly fall evening.

Chicken Stew with Butternut Squash

Tired of the same old soups and stews? Try this fabulous Chicken Stew with Butternut Squash Stew. Chock full of chicken and veggies, it’s the ultimate one pot meal.

Got a fav soup/stew/chili recipe? Let me know what it is in the comments!
